I have already told you all about our love for snacking. All 3 of us enjoy munching on something in-between meals. Fruits are my daughter’s favorite snacks. She also enjoys candies, cookies, cold milk, plain yogurt and ice-cream. I usually go for healthy muffins and cakes with some tea. I have been baking my healthy banana muffins with many variations every week now.
My husband though is not a fan of most of these things. He loves savory or spicy snacks. His favorites are regular Indian bakery staples like chips, kara biscuits (spicy masala cookies), spicy trail mixes, roasted spiced nuts etc. He keeps complaining to me that I don’t make enough savory snacks for him. So today I have decided to make something for him which is savory, crunchy and not deep fried!!

My Crunchy Savory Millet Fakes is perfect for anybody who wants to snack in between meals without ruining their diet plans! Most regular crunchy Indian snacks are deep fried. So next time you crave for one of those, please make this millet flakes mix. It’s really easy to make, stays good for a few days in an airtight container and is actually healthy!!
I have used Finger Millet flakes or Ragi flakes in this recipe. I bought them from my local organic store. If you don’t have it use wheat flakes or even corn flakes instead. Of course millet flakes are a lot healthier so you might actually want to start stocking on them. From my experience millet flakes are one of the tastiest ways to enjoy millets. They are crispy and crunchy with a mild sweetness to it and are great just by themselves. But here it’s spiced up with some onion, garlic, finely chopped mint and a touch of sweetness is added with coconut.
Get creative with spices, add green chilies if you like it hot, try different herbs, make it with or without coconut, add nuts if you like or forget the onion, garlic and make it sweet with a spoon of sugar and cinnamon. A bowl of this with yogurt can be a healthy breakfast. You can also add a few spoon of this into your salads for added crunch. The sweet version I am sure will be delicious with fresh fruits!
A jar of this crunchy goodness will make sure you don’t miss those savory deep fried snacks and never go hungry.

Ingredients:
- 2 cups finger millet flakes
- ¼ cup fresh grated or desiccated coconut
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- ¼ finely chopped mint
- 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
- A pinch of salt
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil
Combine all the ingredients and spread it evenly on a baking tray. Bake at 120 degree C for 15 to 20 minutes till the millet flakes look crispy and the coconut and onion are slightly browned.
Let the mix come to room temperate and store in an air-tight container.

If I have a chance to choose I will always go for something sweet rather than savory, but these millet flakes is really something that could replace my sugary sins
