{Due to a recent virus attack I lost a whole bunch of recipe on my blog. I am slowly working on posting them back one by one. I am going to start with the recipes I am getting most requests for. If you remember/want to try one of my earlier recipes which is now not in this blog please write to be at chinmayie.bhat@gmail.com and i’ll try to post it as soon as possible. I am basically just going to re-post the recipe as it was. So some of the content might not be so relevant today but my intention is to get them all back and I have over 80 posts to re-blog. Thank you! }
If you are food blogger or a food blog follower you must have noticed that there are some recipes which ‘trend’ trough all of them. All of a sudden you might notice that everybody is making ‘green smoothies’, cooking quinoa, making raw brownies with dates and nuts, healthy mousse with avocado or silken tofu etc…
I always wondered why that happened until I tried these ‘trending’ recipes 🙂 These recipes are fool proof and so good! Think about it… there must be a reason why everybody tries them, loves them and blogs them, right?
One of these recipes which I have been seeing forever was Raw Truffles. I must have seen different variations of this in at least over a dozen blogs. Even though everybody highly recommended them I never really made them because I thought they can’t really be *that* good! Come on… we all know how wonderful real truffles are! Though I make them very rarely, they are always LOVED. This one has no added sugar or fat and is raw and you are telling me it tastes good??
A couple of days ago cocoa craving hit me. It was monday evening and I wanted my sugar fix real quick. For some strange reason this truffle recipe came to my mind. I had dates and I had cocoa, so nothing was going to stop me! I made this Date and Cocoa truffle and I don’t need to tell you how much I loved them! They are so good that I actually decided to blog about them ‘once again’!! lol…
In case you are like me and have never tried this recipe, please change your mind after reading this post. Everybody deserves this sweet treat! You are literally 2 ingredients and 2 minutes away from one of the easiest and tastiest raw desserts. Make it NOW!!
Notes:Â
Use the best quality dates you have. They need to be soft and sweet
Use good quality cocoa.
Add alcohol of your choice to make boozy truffles.
Add different spices to change flavors.
Add nuts to the mix if you like, try almonds, cashew, pistachio, walnuts etc
I have rolled them over cocoa but you can try coconut, sesame, finely ground nuts, etc for different colors and flavors.
Ingredients
- 10-15 good quality soft dates
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1-2 tbsp of olive oil/coconut oil/rum/vanilla (optional)
- some unsweetened cocoa more to roll the truffles.
This is simple! Just de-seed the dates and process them with cocoa powder into a smooth paste. If it’s too hard (depends of your dates) use a bit of oil or alcohol to help it come together. Once done, scoop small bits out with a spoon and roll it between your palm to make truffles. Roll them over some unsweetened cocoa and store in an air-tight container.

Fabulous recipe! Did anyone else have a problem with date chunks? I wonder if mine needed more soaking? I used my vitamix to blend but everything kept getting stuck and I did end up with some date pieces in the truffles.
