Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu in 2 minutes!

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

Looks like 2014 is going to be a busy year for me. I continue to cook my daily meals along with experimenting and creating new recipes often so blogging them technically shouldn’t be too hard. But all of us food bloggers know how much work it actually takes. I enjoy writing long posts and sharing dozens of photos with each of my recipes here but if I want to continue blogging, I’ll have to make a few changes in this.

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

Most of my regular readers know that I have an almost two month old baby boy and a 4.5 year old daughter who is being homeschooled. They are my priority and take up most of my time and energy.  From now on I am planning to blog mostly really simple and easy recipes till I have more time to spare.

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

There are lots of my everyday recipes, which I think all you readers will surely enjoy. Not like I was ever into elaborate food styling but I’ll have to cut down on my photography time even more. You will be seeing more and more quick shots. I might also write very little other than just a quick introduction to the recipe I am sharing. With this format I hope I’ll be able to be here more often with new and exciting posts!

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

What I am sharing with you all today is one more quick and easy recipe, which takes not more than 2 minutes to make! This Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu can be made in no time and is perfect for any time of the day. Press it between 2 slices of bread for a healthy breakfast or fix yourself a lovely snack in no time! Plate it with some sesame seeds sprinkled on top for a fancy appetizer or serve it over noodles or rice for a hearty meal. If you have leftovers, simply crumble it and make a wrap with some flat bread with a dollop of creamy sauce over it! Here’s a recipe which will come to your rescue when you haven’t planned a meal on a week day.

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

Replace garlic with ginger for ‘Ginger Sesame Tofu’!

Try other vegetables instead of Tofu. I am sure some cubes of boiled potato or lightly steamed broccoli, green beans or cauliflower will taste great in this spice mix.

If you don’t have good sesame oil, use peanut, coconut or olive oil instead.

I served this with simple steamed rice with a dash of light soy sauce for that extra depth of flavor.

The variety of dry chili used will decide how spicy the final dish is. Go for a milder variety for brightly coloured, flavorful tofu, which is not too hot.

You can make the same dish without any chili in it if you are making it for kids.

Spicy Garlic Sesame Tofu

  • 6-8 cloves of garlic
  • 8-10 dry red chilies
  • 1 tbsp white sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 400 grams of firm tofu

Place the chilis, garlic (no peeling the skin required) sesame seeds and salt in a spice grinder and pulse it a few times. It should turn into a coarse paste.

Cut the tofu into bite size pieces.

Heat the oil in a pan and add the spice mix. Fry for a few seconds and add in the tofu cubes. Toss for the spices to coat the tofu well. Fry for a few more seconds or for a minute till the tofu turns slightly golden and crisp on the outside.

Serve hot with some sesame seeds sprinkled on top.
