When it’s raining outside and you have a bunch of bananas please please please make sweet banana fritters! I know it’s not the healthiest of snacks but a couple of these are very good for your soul!
This recipe is another childhood favorite. We didn’t really make too many deep fried snacks at home but this one, whenever made was a HIT. They are very easy to make and make great evening snack for kids. It can also be a tasty breakfast when you want to pamper yourself with something special.
I had some deep fried bananas in Singapore once; they were delicious but not the same. They were deep fried whole and the better has eggs and white flour in it. My version is quite different. This has just 2 main ingredients, chickpea flour and bananas! Simple!
The ingredient that makes a great difference is a spoonful of red chili powder or cayenne pepper used in the batter. I know it sounds little strange to have sweet banana dipped in spicy chickpea batter but that’s what makes this dish special. Traditionally we use coconut oil to deep fry this but you can also use any other oil.
These vegan banana fritters are lite, fluffy and sweet. Make them today and enjoy them with a hot cup of tea!
- 2 cups of cut bananas
- ½ cup chickpea flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp red chili powder or cayenne
- Oil for deep frying
Mix chickpea flour, salt and chili powder. Add enough water and make a batter of pancake batter consistency or slightly thicker. Cut your bananas into approximately ½ inch thickness.
Heat oil in a pan. Dip the banana slices in chickpea batter and put it into oil when it’s really hot (but not yet boiling) Fry till golden brown. Serve hot!
