Black Pepper Pods on Vine
I seem to be in a ‘spicy’ mood these days 😉
First I shared a Stir-fry and Granita recipes using fresh ginger, then it was some photos of fresh green cardamom fruits on my Facebook page and my previous post was a photo of an Old black pepper pod!
Today I am sharing some photos of Black Pepper on vine, before ripening and drying. Here they are actually Green!
We grow Black pepper in our farm and though it’s not extensively used in our cooking it’s a staple in most Indian kitchens. It’s used more as a medicine in our family. Black peppers are roasted, crushed and added to soups and curries whenever somebody catches a cold (I shared a tomato soup with black pepper recipe here) . It’s also boiled with jaggery into a syrup to produce the best cough syrup.
All the photos were taken right outside my parent’s house. My husband picked these off the vine and he requested me to pickle them with some fresh lemon and green chilies. I have a bunch of these green pods in my refrigerator right now and I can’t wait to pickle it!! Will share the recipe with you all soon!
